The 1970’s were a really big time for country music with many artists hitting it big on the charts and the artform itself branching out in new ways. You had the emergence of outlaw country with artists like Willie Nelson, Tanya Tucker, and Kris Kristofferson, the country pop sound of Glen Campbell, Linda Ronstadt, and Bobbie Gentry, and the country rock sound of Gram Parsons, Gene Clark, and even Bob Dylan. With these new branches of country music emerging, there was an explosion of amazing albums released in the decade, drawing from influences like rock, blues, and straight-ahead pop music. On today’s show we are going to explore this exciting decade in country music and we’ve brought on a wonderful guest, Sachi Kobayashi, who is extremely knowledgeable about both the past and present of this important genre.
